We wanted to say farewell to the WEC! One of my MMA highlights was sitting ringside in press row for the Faber v. Pulver fight..man that was a war and both guys were so cool to meet. And this guy Pettis..what do you say to that..UNREAL.. hats off to Henderson as well for fighting like a demon. We at OTM have been following him and he is talented though the roof, which just makes what Pettis does even more amazing...Henderson will probably get better (scary) and then this could be one of those I-II-III ultra thriller rivalries!

What are you watching?

So like most MMA fanatics (us included) you will most likely have the DVR working OT or wheeling out the kids TV so you can watch both the Ultimate Finale and Strikeforce. But let's just say you could only watch one? Which would it be? The American Pyscho V. the guy whose name I don't how to say or spell or Dan Henderson V. Babalu? I like Bonnar I think he is given a lot of latitude for his epic battle with Griffin....fair enough.This smells like a gimme to keep him relavent. Hendo is a legend but the tread maybe wearing down, can someone remind me what was so awesome about Babalu? Those facts alone make it compelling on some level. Bonnar loses then what? Henderson has lost just enough to make this one a monster battle and gives rise to a re-match. Not sure. But hells bells I will be watching both as happy as my boys at Christmas.
By the way the new TCB walk-out shirts are in and we Built to fight gloves at a great price for you to get your hands together in training. Form Athletics has shipped us some great training shorts and we are adding Gi lines all this month so you have selection. Jiu Jitsu for the Holidayz!!

MMA is the greatest sport in the world...right? And we at OTM have respect for all fighting styles, basically if you fight we support you. But the genesis of MMA is in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Its a fair argument it's the one prinicpal you have to at the very least know how to defend. If you don't your career is going to be short. The sport is getting very complex and more and more sophisticated, even the fans, for the first time that I can think of at UFC 122 I heard a loud chorus of boos for a stand up. The fans actually did not like the break, they felt that one guy was advancing toward a submission position! 2 or 3 years ago as soon as they went to the ground there was a good chance you hear boos.
We at OTM have seen an explosion of guys coming in to get Gi's and rash guards for Jiu-Jitsu, alot of them ex- wrestlers and boxers. This a great sign for the sport of Jiu-Jitsu. We are gearing up for some exciting things for you Jiu-JItsu freaks (we count are selfs as those freaks) so keep checking in I think you will be as excited as we are.

THANKSGIVING MMA!

It's been a crazy week down on the wharf! We're fighting the good fight and training like dogs. But we are thankful for an awful lot this time of year!
Most of all we are Thankful for you the customers! Yeah its cool to be able to talk MMA gear all day and watch and talk about MMA, get some freebies like tickets to the UFC meet, Anderson Silva..Mike Swick....Jason "Mayem" Miller all who have come in to our shop and countless others. But you guys are the best. We love showing a newbie some cool gear and then find he sticks with it and he is addicted to the sport like we are. Then there is the vet who usually thinks he has seen it all and we show him something that makes his life better or turn his kids onto the sport. Thats what gets us geeked and makes coming in here worth it!! So we are thankful for you!

Train Hard Fight Hard Party Hard...what does all this mean?

It's pretty simple...if all three line-up in a perfect world then each will be sweeter in turn. You know the feeling after you trained for 90 minutes and your sitting against the wall, the world is good. We have been told by MMA fighters that the feeling after a fight is religious, the feeling is the same for some fighters even if they lost but fought as hard as they could in a war. And well we have been at some UFC post fight parties and your imagination if you haven't been to one can fill in the blanks easily. I think Frankie Edgar exemplifies the term, so here's to you Frankie Edgar from OTM FIGHT SHOP SF...TRAIN HARD, FIGHT HARD, PARTY HARD!

OTMers sorry to be away so long! Staff was getting their Jiu Jitsu game back in order. We may even appear in our own commercial during the raiders game.
Lesnar v. Carwin was awesome...right? Were you as surprised as I was to see a Jackson camp fighter gas in the second? Well you gotta guess he wasn't there full time until it was too late.
Lesnar has a stone jaw...that elbow would have crushed most humans heads.

So in a quick poll of fight fans here at OTM the landslide favorite is.....Brock Lesnar!! I haven't picked a fight right two years ( oh wait a minute I picked Werdum but quickly shut up because of those "your crazy" comments) but thats really the only one. Lesnar is great for the sport period...the world needs a villain. Do you know what made all those Frazier-Ali fights even more huge than they were...it was because it polarized the country, I remember my fathers friends hated Ali and loved Frazier because of there views on Viet Nam(I don;t think Frazier went over there and fought either but he was quiet about it. We all have our reasons to hate Lesnar but he is a specimen. He invokes emotion he brings even more fans to the table, and if you think the sport will thrive by staying true to some inner circle of know-it-alls, and the fact you train twice a week entitles you to watch the sport more than my friend Larry than you haven;t been paying attention. Dana White is a genius plain and simple and every move so far has been a home run, I get down on one knee and pray that Dana White gets up everyday and does his evil. As far as Brock and Shane go...I just want to see thunder and competition. Carwin wins Lesnar got what most big mouths get...Lesnar wins and we get all worked about the next guy they bring in to teach him to be humble. And throw the rumors about Fedor in and then we have an even bigger fight on our hands. Now if we could only get Brock to say he would never go to Afghanistan or Iraq.

Man its been another great week down here On The Mat. New guys to the sport coming in with that enthusiasm we all had in the beginning, and it rubs off! The old dogs come down sharing stories about the old days, and I'm glad we had those.
Is it me or does the WEC just keep getting better? Hordecki V. Downes are you kidding me? That was just INCREDIBLE!! Then Hominick V. Jabouin...really..my god the sport gets better and we get more of it everyday!! Both of these were WARS!

ULTIMATE FIGHT NIGHT!!

Saturday was a great night! I left OTM just after 9pm people were talking about the fights all day as per usual at OTM. The arguments are always spirited.Funny fighters and fight fans like to argue..hm! It always starts out nice and then someone says something a little over the line defending their turf. Twice now I almost had to step around the counter and get between two guys...but thankfully in both cases they settled down on their own. I LOVE IT...PASSION FOR THE SPORT THAT THE MAN ABOVE HIMSELF FAVORS!
Hey OTMers new Hayabusa gear is in, the VENUM shirts we have are a limited style so if you want something strange and unique that the geek in the office won;t have, come on down.
Congrats to Court McGee from OTM SF you are an American Success story in the modern sense. Where before we had to fight our way up the economic ladder now we have to beware the pitfalls of many things all equally challenging I guess. Hey I think McCray is gonna be a factor in that divison too he just keeps getting better and better.
Anyway buy an MMA magazine, buy a Tapout T, get a PPV, watch a local grappling tourney, train an extra night a week..do something man SUPPORT THE SPORT!!

We would like to welcome a new member to our staff..Wynonna Finucan...she is in charge of our growing woman's section and has a lot of retail experience in San Francisco. We managed to get a few words out of her the blog and has had this to say about her first month at OTM.
"Being a new hire at OTM was intimidating at first. There is so much to learn and remember about the products we sell, and most of the time I’m the only girl in the store. Being hit on was something I wasn’t prepared for, but it makes for interesting and funny stories to tell my friends. Another thing I find funny is how apologetic men are when they unfold a shirt for a close look. Over all I enjoy working at OTM and have had great co-workers and managers."
